Course
Description:
This course is designed to increase aerobic fitness levels, muscular
strength and endurance, and flexibility. This course is transferrable to
UC and CSU colleges. Class is taught for 15 weeks and grades are
based on attendance and completion of assignments. You do not need to know
how to swim to take this class. Nonswimmers are welcome. Cardiovascular
conditioning is stressed and instruction is provided on:

Required Red Cross Textbooks:
Required at each class: textbook, paper, pen/pencil, swimsuit, goggles,
towel.

This class is built on regularly scheduled workouts and attendance at all sessions is critical.
No watches and no jewelry are allowed during the water portion of the class.
Required Materials for Class:
Swimsuit and towel are required every class. Tape measure and pencil are required on certain days. Aqua shoes are recommended but not required.
Preventing Ear Infections:
If water remains in the outer ear, it will cause an infection within a couple of days. In order to keep the outer ear dry you can do the following:
- Don’t clean the wax out of your ear
- Use a towel, hair dyer, or fan to dry the ear
- Use Swimmer’s Ear solution or rubbing alcohol available from your local drug store.
Grading
Grades are awarded on total points obtained during the semester. Points are given for attendance and for completed assignments. Attending other swim or aqua aerobic classes at ECC can make up days out of the water.

Assignments that earn 25 points each: (All assignments can be printed from the WWW and submitted to the instructor as required.) Full points are awarded only when the worksheet is completely done. Partial credit is awarded for partial completion of worksheets.

Pool Rules: Safety is our first concern and the rules are intended to keep everyone safe in the pool area.
- No swimming without permission of the instructor and/or lifeguard on duty.
- No running on the pool deck
- No diving into the shallow pool.
- No gum chewing, glass containers, or smoking in the pool area.
- No “intoxicated” person in the pool area.
- Please remove bobby pins and jewelry before entering the pool.
- No back dives from the edge of the pool or the starting blocks.
- No one is allowed to sit on the shoulders of another swimmer in the pool.
- Swimmers must wear normal swim attire. No cut-off pants or walking shorts.
- Ladies may wear nylon shorts over swimsuit.
- No tee-shirts allowed in the pool.
- No pushing or shoving others into the pool or while on deck.
- No horseplay in the pool or on the deck.
- One person on the diving board at a time.
- One bounce on the diving board before entering the water.
- Go straight off the end of the board and get out of the way as quickly as possible.
