My dear Mr Suttle,

Mr Carlyle's noble book, "The French Revolution," was, I think, the most
immediate source of information and inspiration for me. But you rightly ask
about the bible. Many readers have felt that "A Tale of Two Cities" is a
story about redemption. I do not dispute this. Where else should I have
learned about redemption but in holy scripture?

Faithfully yours,

Charles Dickens
