Dear Messrs Dumb and Dumber,

It was good of you tell me you have a sense of humour. I shouldn't have
realised it otherwise.
You ask where I got what you call the "ridiculous" names for many of my
characters. Very much where you'd expect. Some I got from real names I
observed. Snodgrass and Chadband, for instance, are real names. Some, such
as Chuzzlewit and Scrooge, I invented.
How you can suppose I cast Harry Secombe as Mr Bumble, in the musical
comedy called "Oliver," passes the limits of my understanding. You must ask
the producers.

Faithfully yours,

Charles Dickens
