My dear Sir,

  You are of course right.  It is easy to forget that writers not subjects
of her sovereign majesty Queen Victoria are considered today to be as
Victorian as their English, Scottish, Welsh and Irish contemporaries.  Nor
is there any reason why they shouldn't be.
