My dear Miss Kleck,

There is no substitute for books, when needs such as yours declare
themselves. The "Oxford Companion to English Literature" has a handy
summary of my book, "A Tale of Two Cities." An even better one is to be
found in "The Dickens Index," edited by Bentley, Slater and Burgis. I think
you should be able to find one of these, at least, either in your school
library, or in your local public library. "The Dickens Index" moreover, has
entries for individual characters, telling you how they fit in with other
characters. And there are several books cxalled "Who's Who in Dickens," or
something of the kind, in which you can find lists of characters.
You cannot expect an author of books, my dear Miss Kleck, to provide you
with a substitute for books. But he is delighted to be able to recommend
books to you.

Faithfully yours,

Charles Dickens
