My dear Sir,

There are obvious comparisons, don't you agree? Of Carton and Stryver, of
Carton and Darnay, for instance. But how about comparing Dr Manette and Mr
Lorry? Both repress emotion, Dr Manette because it sweeps him away, Mr
Lorry because he is frightened of it. How about a comparison between Madame
Defarge and Miss Pross, both very clear about their objectives, but such
different objectives! Or of Madame Defarge and Lucie, both studies in
family piety, but so very different!
I do hope, my dear sir, that you can use these suggestions.

Faithfully yours,

Charles Dickens
