My dear Miss Alicia,
Tellson's Bank I placed at Temple Bar, a sort of triumphal arch that used
to separate the City of London from the parish to the west of it. It was a
great obstructer of traffic. Why not write a scene involving Mr Lorry,
Jerry Cruncher, Charles Darnay and Mr Stryver, standing by Temple Bar and
discussing traffic congestion, in a way that reveals character and attitudes
to history? Mr Lorry might claim that he is a man of business not fitted to
understand such things, but that, when pressures build up, something has to
give way. Mr Cruncher would probably oppose any change on the grounds that
it would affect the business of porters. Charles Darnay would pretend
indifference, but secretly agree with Mr Lorry. Mr Stryver would oppose
change because it would change the character of the legal quarter of London,
spread out around Temple Bar, which, Heaven forbid, could lead to change in
the law itself.
Faithfully yours,
Charles Dickens

Summerland, BC, Canada. I was wondering if you could help me with some
ideas. I would like to create a scene using either Tellson's and the
immediate area, or at least 4 of the principal characters of A Tale of Two
Cities. I was wondering if you had any ideas on where to begin, and how to
go about doing something like this. Your expertise is greatly appreciated,
thank-you very much.
