My dear Miss Edmunds,

I began work on "Great Expectations" towards the end of September in 1860,
and finished it at the end of June in 1861, about nine months of quite
exhausting work. The book appeared in weekly installments, in my journal
"All the Year Round." I was more used to monthly installments, and found
this weekly discipline punitive. But I accomplished it.

Faithfully yours,

Charles Dickens
