My dear Miss Howard,

Or Mr Howard? I think I've heard of males with the Christian name Shelley,
but have know only females.
The answer to your question is simple: Shakespeare. If you exclude the
Bard, on the grounds that we should think of him first as a playwright,
second as a poet, the answer is that Wordsworth and Tennyson battle for the
Inimitable's garland of laurel.
I delight in your having been named after a poet. I named most of my sons
after writers I admire. Your father and mother are clearly wise and amiable
parents.

Faithfully yours,

Charles Dickens
