  On the contrary, Pip is a conformist, painfully anxious to learn the
manners and adopt the fashions of a gentleman.  He has to learn to get these
things in proportion, to see that there are greater values.  That he
succeeds in doing so indicates, I suppose, that a seed of rebellion is
within him.  But I would not call him a rebel.
