My dear Mr Glendinning,

  Alas, I have yet to see the electric theatre version of "Great
Expectations" featuring Miss Paltrow,but I cannot believe it would distress
me more than some dramatic versions of my stories I saw on the stage in my
own day.  As for Maggie being "insinuated upon," there is no suggestion of
that in my book, nor was any intended.
