I recently visited the city of Arnhem in Holland, mainly to see the `Bridge Too Far' and look around the museum. It was an experience that I really recommend to anyone who is interested in what happened there. There is a lot to see and the people are incredibly friendly.
The sight that I found most moving was in the Cathedral, there are bronze figures of British paratroopers descending from a part of the ceiling. There are also pictures showing how the cathedral was rebuilt in the early post war years. The large bell is sitting in the nave, close to where it fell as the church came under German artillery fire.
I used to work with a gentleman named Jack Sudlow who fought there. I haven't seen him since 1984 but I want to contact him now to tell him that I have been there. I actually found him in two photographs on display in the museum!!

I would love to hear from anyone else who was there, from either side. Or anyone who had a relative who fought there. Please get in touch.

Best wishes

S. Spurdle

P.S. The hamburgers in Arnhem are the best I have ever tasted. Another good reason for going back there soon.
