Dear teacher to be,
In the hope that it might help convince your students how much they should
cherish there school years I will relate my own experiance during WW11. In
1943 I was a junior in Torrance Calif. We were told that if we wished to have
a choice in what branch of the armed forces we would be in we must e nlist
before turning 18 years of age. If we did not do this we would, in fact be
drafted into the must needy branch at that time. Many of us did enlist in the
Navy as our first choice. My very dearest friend preferred the Marines and was
later killed on Iwo Jima island. Another friend and i wound up in the
amphibious Navy and finished the war at Okinawa Island with 7 battle stars but
alive to return home. My only reason for relating this story is in the hope
that it will make some still free American youngsters realize how very
fortunate they are. Jimmie Prime now 72 years old and proud that I did my
part.
