I still strongly disagree with Walter Felscher's statements regarding
legal compulsory membership in the Hitler Youth.
However, the Memories List, which is such an important one to help
inform our youth, is, I am sure, not meant as a serious debating club.
Instead it is meant as a place for seniors/elders to tell of their own
particular experiences during that time. Mr. Felscher has obviously
done that, and so have I. We apparently experienced some things
differently,
and the readers of Memories must now make up their own minds on such
matters,
or investigate such questions further elsewhere.
I would only remind the reader to keep in mind the background of the
individuals
telling of their experiences. As far as this questions is concerned, it
means
asking whether the individual telling about the Hitler Youth was or was not
a
member or associated with it in any way. Those are the kind of questions
our
present youth should always ask at all times when listing to stories being
told about Germany, their allies, the Holocaust and that particular time
period.
The main point, I believe, is that the world's youth learn about what
happened
during that time, not to debate it, but only to make sure that they do
everything
in their power not to let such things happen again to anyone anywhere, and
that
in future we all do our best to live in harmony and peace together!
