Dear Ed,
By chance I found at the Munchen railway station a fascinating and well
illustrated book (edited by Hugendubel) by Elisabeth Angemair and Ulrike
Haerendel "Inszenierter Alltag" that illustrates the sneaky and
continuous infiltration of daily life (family activities, sport
organisations, celebrations) by the Nazi system. It show with many
details the slow infection of German Society. It's well worth studying,
because it shows how these things don't happen suddenly and brutally
but slowly like an infection. My feeling is that the Hitler Jugend was
just a part of the complex and well oiled system.
