Two excellent books by children of Holocaust survivors are: 'Jewels and =
Ashes', by Arnold Zable, 1991, and 'The Fiftieth Gate' by Mark Baker, =
1997.
I'd also like to ask a couple of questions about the British Women's Land=
Army, as background to a novel I'm working on. Did most girls stay at =
one farm for the duration of the war, or were they posted to various plac=
es? Were there many large farms such as one I've read about at RAF Topcli=
ffe, or did the majority go to private farms? Finally - were they expecte=
d to help with any domestic tasks such as preserving, making butter, etc,=
or did they work strictly as outdoor farm labourers?
Thank you.
