Who did not go to war against Germany because of the Holocaust?
Check the history books and individual declarations of war on this question,
but certainly you must include any nation who was attacked by the Germans.
Poland, Russia, Norway, Belgium, etc. I think there is a danger in
interpretation of events in your conclusion as the details of the Holocaust
came out later or were not acknowledged until it had been going on for some
time. The truth is that ethnic and religious prejudice was very strong in
the world of the 1930s and 40's. In the U. S. people I've talked with about
the war use negative words about the Germans and the Japs. No one used a
term such as "Killer of Jews" or "Holocaust promoter." This does not mean
that today we should not be indignant about behaviors that are similar to
those of the Holocaust where ever they occur and act to publish them and try
to defeat such attitudes and behaviors. I believe that is what is really
meant by the phrase, "Never again." Mary E. Haas
