Jews moving from Nazi Germany

One of the dark blots on American history is our refusal (in 1938, I
think it was) to accept a shipload of Nazi refuguees (the ship was
named to "St. Louis," if I remember correctly), The shipload had also
been rejected by Cuba and Argentina and other countries. As a result,
it had to return to Germany, where many of the passengers ended up in
concentration camps, and many died. At that time, the rest of the
world was about as anti-semitic as Germany, but stopped short of
killing or torturing. Nobody wanted a shipful of Jewish refugees. But
it is Roosevelt's and America's shame that despite what the statue of
liberty says we refused them entry.
