Me neither.  When Mary Haas wrote about US involvement
in the European War I don't think she meant it in quite
that way.

I can assure you that I have never met a single person
that believes we could have defeated nazism without
the United States of America. And we are also aware
that many of the sacrifices that civilians were asked
to make during those years were so that you had the
means to help us here in Britain.
