Dear Tom,
    As you probably know I share a similar concern about learning about the
impact of WWII on civilians.  One of my concerns is that Americans think they
won the war.  While it is true that the U.S. did supply much and did send
troops into some battles.  Many other nations and many civilians had much
greater difficulties than did the vast majority of Americans.  Unfortunately,
this is not brought out in most children's books or textbooks.  The way it is
learned is to be an historical researcher for yourself and ask questions and
go to new sources of information.  The Internet is one good source that
teacher can have come into their own classroom which can help them and their
students learn this information and new perspectives.  Mary E. Haas
