Hello, I am doing a histroy project on World War 2, and my assignment is to
find a person who experienced the war first hand and interview him/her. This
person didn't have to actually have fought in the war, but would have been
living at the time and experiencing all of what occured. I was wondering if
you could help me out by answering the following questions. I would be very
thankful if you could help me out, and thank you for your time.
1. Where did you live during the war or where were you stationed?
2. What were your duties?
3. How was the morale in your unit (s)
4. How was the food and the living quarters?
5. Were there any experiences that seemed boring at all?
6. What did the soldiers do for entertainment?
7. Where did you get your information about the war?
8. What part of the war do you remember as being the worst time for America?
9. When were you most afraid during the war?
10. When did you start to feel the war effort was turning to the Allied side?
11. What did you think at the time about FDR? Churchill? Stalin? Hitler?
Mussolini? the Japanese? the Germans? the Italians? the
a-bomb droppings?
12. Have any of these opinions changed over the years?
13. Did you have personal contact with our allies? What was that like?
14. Did you know about the internment of Japanese-Americans? How did you
feel?
15. When did you learn about concentration camps? How did you feel?
16. What were you or what were you doing when you heard about the Japanese
attack on Pearl Harbor? D-Day? VE Day? VJ Day? the death of FDR?
17. Describe your experience upon returning to the U.S. (parade? parties?)
18. Do you still keep in contact with men in your former units?
19. Did you get the G.I Bill? What did you use it for?
20. How had the World War II experience affected your life?
