Friends,
I have subscrobed to this list because of the involvement of my uncles
in WWII. My father did not serve , he was given a defurrment to stay on
the farm and help his father. However, I had 4 uncles that served. Three
of them served in the south pacific particularly in Guadelcanal. I know
that at least one of these mem served in the North Dakota National Guard
unit that came into Guadelcanel afer the Marines landed and helped with
the mop-up. This uncle told me some stories about his part in the war
and to a young boy of just 12 years old they sounded so adventorous. I
am now 53 years old and know that it must have been a real bad time.
Another of my uncles served with Patton in Italy and Scilicy. He also
had many storys to tell me and again all souned so wonderful to me when
I was young.
My uncles names were Harry Grewatz--he served with Patton. Clarence
Blecha served with the North Dakota National Guard.
I would enjoy hearing from anybody who might recall these men and any
stories you might remember about them. My Uncle Harry passed away about
a year ago in the VA hospital in Fargo, Noth Dakota. My Uncle Clarence
is still alive, retired and living in Grand Forks, North Dakota. We find
time to still talk to one another by phone about twice a year.
Thank you
Kirk Blecha
