Dear Linda -

You already received some feedback, and I want to reflect on the fact that
those who are on this list to respond to questions were 50-60 years
younger than they are now and their inputs come from memories of a time
when they themselves were children and younf adults. If they were older
then they are probably not computer-active today. One of the benefits for
all on this list is the fact that these memories come from roughly the
same age group then that is now asking questions, but that that these
memories are usually reported in the context of a life lived trying to
extract some lessons and some meaning from these memories, and it is this
post-processing that has as much or greater value than the stories
themselves. All of us could write books, few have and fewer still will
in the future. It is easier to respond to specific questions and perhaps
you can get your class to formulate some. There are also archives of
a great deal of prior message traffic on this list to refer to.

One of the lessons we all share is about the impermanence of hate we
individually hold. Those of us who respond were on opposite sides and
had we met during WWII we would have discussed matters with a gun,
perhaps. Today we no longer carry any such sentiments and feel united
in our desire to show the utter nonsense of war and hate and that wars
are not over when they are over, that the war continues in many ways in
all of us, but now war itself has become our enemy, not those who were
in it, whatever side of the fence we were on.

Best regards
