I had a look at the USGenWeb pages you mentioned and they
are most interesting.  They add to the work of the
International Committee of the Red Cross Tracing Service,
based in Geneva (which contains 60,000,000 records of
missing people or prisoners-of-war over the last 100 years).

I was surprised to learn that 20 percent of the enquiries
and tracing work still being carried out refers to families
separated by World War Two.  This service is only available
for close relatives of people who were caught up in wars of
similar conflicts.  The USGenWeb system seems to have a
wider remit.  Thanks for telling us about it.
