Hello everyone
Like Darrel, I have been really curious about my father's war experiences
(with the British Army in China where he was a POW for 4 years). During the
years when I was growing up, he would tell us little snippets about people
he met and the harsh conditions in the pow camp. But we never could really
get any kind of total picture of his experiences. I think he found a lot of
it too distressing to put into words (as well as not wanting to horrify us).
However, he did talk a lot about his "Chinese wife", and we were never quite
sure whether he was joking or not! :-)
The war marked him, physically and mentally, as it did so many. Now his
memory is not what it was: he is over eighty and very tired. I hope Darrel
can piece things together from his father's letters.
