Greetings:

I am a graduate student at UMass-Amherst and an
adjunct faculty member at Western New England College
in Springfield,MA.

An assignment in one my courses is to subscribe to a
mail list of our choice. In searching I found the
"Memories" list and I am very interested in this
subject matter because my father was a WWII veteran.
He passed on in 1983 from a service related disability.

In recent years I have been trying research as much as
possible as to where he was and what happ
ened to him
during WWII. I have been helped tremendously by a gift
from my mother: hundreds of letters that he wrote to
her during his time in the Army.

My father's letters are very interesting in that he writes
very little about any combat experiences. Instead he
talks about the aftermath and how sad he is to see
places in N.Africa and Europe devastated by the
destruction of battle. He is also extremely homesick
and misses my mother who he has nicknamed, "Imagination".

I am very in
terested in hearing more from others whose
lives were affected by this war.

Thank you.
