I saw two of the concentration camps and while I would not recommend that
experience to anyone I would reply that if anything, nothing about the
holocaust was exagerated.
My experience of World War II was marvelling at the calm and bravery of the
British people during the bombardements and when they believed the Germans
were just about to invade their shores - the exaustion in the faces of the
children and mothers in occupied Europe - the friendship and the common
purpose of all the various forces from so many different countries and parts
of the world - and how we all really believed that we were fighting for the
best cause of all, freedom for everyone in the world. This has not come true
but perhaps someday it will.

Dear Sean
This pehomenon has always been the ugly part of mankind - in the guise of
rebellion and "doing our own thing". Some people are so uncertain about who
they are and look for approval as part of a group, no matter how
reprehensible that group's ideas are. Let us just hope that they grow up

A great sense of relief that I would not have to go to the war in Japan. I
was I Germany at the end of the war in Europe, in the Royal Canadian Air
Force, and we had been told that we were headed for Vancouver to embark for
the Far East. I also felt very happy that now the long suffering civilians
would now have a chance to rebuild their countries and their lives.>

>Hi Christofer
I remember my experiences in World War II with pride of accomplishment,
sadness at the plight of so many peoples, fear of dying, panic at the
thought I might accidentaly let down my comrades - just about all the
emotions a human being can have, all compressed in a small part of my life
(5 years and 4 months of warfare).
