Hi! This is the first time I've actually sent a message, so I don't know how
good the response will be. I'm a sophomore in highschool and I have research
project to do for my American history class. My topic is about soldiers,
on the Pacific front, captured by the Japanese. My uncle was in the Fourth
Marines.
He fought in Bataan and Corregidor, holding off the Japanese in order to
prevent a US mainland invasion. Unfortunately, my Uncle Mel was captured
and held in a Japanese concentration camp for 3 1/2 yrs. He wrote a book
about his experiences in the camp. However, I have not been able to find
his memoirs and he passed on this last week. I would appreciate it if you
were to respond and let me know your experiences. You can learn only so
much from history books, but never about the people. Thank you,
Sarah
