Nathan,
You've quite a topic. I can't give you much first hand information since I
was born during the war. However, my mother told me that they used most of
their ration stamps on my baby food. I highly recommend you search local
newspapers for the war. Also Studs Turkel's book THE GOOD WAR should provide
you with help. In 1992 Yankee Books put out a book titled New England Home
Front. text by Robert Taylor. It is largely a picture book. There are others
also Wm. Tuttle's book DADDY'S GONE TO WAR is very scholarly, but enables the
reader to get a wide perspective of the war's impact in many parts of the
country as rememberd by children growing up during the war. Good luck. Mary
