I'm sorry to seem unsympathetic, but this list goes out to
several hundred schools around the world and as far as I
know is very little seen by veterans of the American Legion
(let alone the German Legion, British Legion or even the
French Legion). Indeed, the list was set up specifically to
record the memories of NON-combattants, rather than
combattants.
In my opinion easily the BEST place for this sort of
enquiry is the World War Two List (WWII-L@ubvm.cc.buffalo.edu)
Write to:
listserv@ubvm.cc.buffalo.edu
Send the following command in the body of the message...
subscribe wwii-l (your name)
You will then be able to ask for news of your grandfather's
regiment through that list. You can also find further information
on the WWWeb page 'www.webcom.com/~jbd/ww2.html'
