I was scheduled for the Bulge, but sent to Western France instead to keep
German troops from breaking out of the submarine pens and joining other
forces headed toward The Bulge. Later, our engineer outfit was attached to
General Patton's Third Army headquarters and we prepared and guarded those
sites across France and Germany.
After VE-Day (May 8) I was sent to Military Government of Austria where I
discovered a very special castle. Will describe this amazing experience if
anyone's interested.
