The invasion day was cold and cloudy, according to the weather reports
I remember (note, that was many years ago), We actually landed on June
10, which was D Plus four, or four days after the troops actually hit
the beachhead. I don't remember the weather that day, I was too cold
and scared to pay much attention. Happily, I did not personally kill
any Nazis, but I know that the tank I was is was shelling certain gun
positions, and later, I saw that there were some dead Germans there, but
I am not certain whose shells did the killing. All I can tell you is that
the only thing ours soldiers were doing is trying to stay alive themselves
and, like most of us, we felt that killing another human being was a
terrible thing. So, you can look at it as we were doing a job, a nasty
job, and mostly we were trying to stay alive. I don't know if this
answers your questions, but you are about the same age as my grandsons,
and I hope to God that you will be spared seeing what we saw, as being
as scared as we were. Good luck, keep the 21st century safe and peaceful
for ALL of mankind. Best,
