Hello Everyone:
I am very glad I found your list. A brief introduction is in order. I am
an older student (43) attending school part-time attempting to get my MS. I
am currently researching information pertaining to the era you all
subscribed to, attended and know the most about. Education is amazing.
Once we get older, we are able to see that education is just an extension of
life. The passing of knowledge from one learned source to oneself.
I am the product of a father that was an American GI stationed in Germany at
the close of the war. My mother was a young German girl that survived the
Allied onslaught. They met, married and raised two kids. My mother died in
1972 and my father remarried (another German woman). I can not get him to
talk at all about that time and so I turn to all of you.
I am attempting to find out as much information on marriages of that time.
Not the conventional marriages, but war brides. European women who married
American GIs (in particular). Now I am not trying to limit any former WAFs
who married European (civilian) men, you're included as well. If any of you
know of or have information about interracial marriages in that group I am
equally interested (Black GIs married to White European Women). I greatly
respect and request any and all information your have on that time. Your
personal experience, first hand knowledge and hearsay. Please feel free to
disseminate the feelings of the government, the nations, yourself and your
friends as long as it pertains to that period in time.
You are a valuable resource, one I greatly admire. All your help is
appreciated.
