Dear Timewitness team,

I am a university student writing an essay on the continuation of rationing in the years after the Second World War finished, and would really appriciate your personal accounts of the subject. Although my essay is centered around British issues, I would also be interested to hear what happened to rationing in other countries after the War.

I know that clothes and food were rationed in Britain until 1949 and 1954 respectively, and would like to know what it was like having to put up with rationing even though the War was over.

Was it frustrating? Or did it just feel like a further part of the War effort?

What did you miss the most food-wise? What was it like to taste it again after rationing was over?

Did you have any experience of the black market? Was it even more prominent after the war?

What else was rationed other than food and clothing?

Did you have any experience of the farming industry, as it was a very profitable time for agriculture?

Rationing improved some people's diets, was this the case in you're experience? did it work the other way in that some people's diets worsened when rationing ended?

Please feel free to add any more information if you feel i've missed anything in my questioning, do you know of any publications that may help me in my research?

Thankyou for your time, I look forward to hearing from you.

Yours sincerely,

Matt Stamper
