dear Liza

Your letter about the soup has moved me to tears. I personally do not
remeber hardship such as my husband who was at that time in Poland as I was
deported to Siberia, our so called alias to Russia. But thaat is another
story. Each Pole will be able to give you a very interesting story as each
one of us has experienced that kind of deprevation which you mention. Just a
little tale which my husband told me, They had a large dog and that dog used
to steal from butchers large suassages, by swallowing it whole and then
vomiting it complete in the house. That was also one way they the family
obtained food. Eating raats was a common accurance. One book I can reccoment
is @When the summer Ended by Cecylia Wolkowinska and Joanna Bogle published
in 1992 Gracewing Fowler Wright Books.
I will be glad to keep in touch.
Magdalena Mokrzycki.
