I find it hard to believe that som e of the things that educators are
teaching us is from the Hero's view. My grandparents were Hitler Youth
and i find it hard to hear that the Hitler youth was in fact seduced
all the way. My grandmother tells me that she knew what was happening
and that they only did it out of pride for their country. She does
say, however, that Hitler made such stories to convince those youths
that they were the WORLD!!! Now i understand why there has been an
uprising concern about what happened in the Hitler Youth Camps, but i
think that now when people reflect on what has happened, they might
have put more things into persepctive than needed. What i mean is that
we talk to Hitler Youth's today and they NOW know what was goign on,
and maying to some degree knew then, but i think that people are also
forgetting that it was also largely due to the rise of nationalism
that lead to the Hitler Youth as well. I am not trying to say that it
was right, or even should be allowed, but that it is a part of our
German HISTORY and we are taking the victory side of things. Hitler
was an evil man, and so were his tactics and ideologies, but that does
not say that the children were 100% seduced. My grandparents knew what
was going on, they just wanted to support their country into a new
fronteir, as bad as it came to be, but they did not know the outcome
of it intirely...i mean they were children. If Bush called to his
people to act out of national pride for America (pardon the analogy
hence i am not American)i am sure that they would. It seems that many
people would do anything for their country, even die for it. I know i
would, it would not take alot of seducing to get me there...I just
hope that people are wise in finding the knowledge of Hitler Youth out
there. It was terrible, but i think we have to ask then what it was
like before they all knew...I know my Grandfather thought it was a
brilliant idea. But then again him mind is now very persuaded to think
otherwise now that he has had 60 years to dwell on it.
