hi i remember being in milwaukee wisconsin[born in 1935] and
hving those little tokens too, we had stickers for gas, and shoes and
sugaretc. i remember stsnding i line for my mom for a a chicken. we
lived with my grandparents[as a lot of families doubled up' and
remember rolling cigaettes for my parents cause cigaretts were hard to
get too. women couldnt get nylons so they used so9me kind of make up
for their legs and draw a seam up the back. thats when a lot of mumps
and differnt diseases were around and you had to have a big quarentine
sign on your door so no one could leave. peoplke would buy a street
car pass to ride them. we couldnt fford one and we would borrow the
neighbors once in a while if we really needed to go some where.we
would save all of our fat and take it to the butcher, an i temember
all,the butchers having heaps og saw dust on their floors. never did
know why.one thing tho.. people were a lot more neighborly back then
and eveyone trie to help each other.
