[timewitnesses] Rationing continued in the UK post WWII

I understand that rationing continued in the UK post WWII, food parcels
could be purchased in Holland to be shipped to the UK via the mail post.

Why was food rationed?
What was rationed?
and
when did it all finally end?
What caused it to continue post WWII and what caused it to end?

In the US we had scarcity during post WWII, cars, houses, and men's
clothing but rationing had ended.

Regards,

Ron Gillen
