From: BCohenklig@aol.com Dear Dr. Mokrzycki, I read your e-mail message with interest and sympathize with the cruelties and hardships that the Polish people had to endure under the Nazis. I do want to comment, however, that although many Poles risked their lives to help the Jews, there were also many who aided the Nazis in their extermination efforts, as documented, for example, in the diaries of those who lived in the Lodz ghetto. A balanced view of that terrible time shows that some Poles acted heroically but others did not. Also, the fact that the Jews tended to live in autonomous units with in Poland was not always entirely voluntary. The laws in Poland, similar to laws in Russia and many other Eastern European countries at the time, did not permit Jews to become citizens or to work in certain professions. Laws also limited Jewish enrollment in Universities. I make these comments to complement the insights your e-mail message provides. Sincerely, Barbara Cohen-Kligerman tst:: ------------------------ Yahoo!
