In 1941 when I was seventeen we decided to raise rabbits for food in our
town garden in Hertfordshire; we already had a few hens for their eggs -the
ration for eggs was one per person per week- and all regulations about
keeping livestock were suspended. I had a younger brother and he and I
defended a pair of beautiful silver bunnies from the pot and eventually in
their old age their skins made me a handsome pair of gloves..... the answer
is yes rabbits wild and tame were a useful diet supplement- sometimes.
