To whom ever is interested in the song Lili Marleen, I am the grandaughter of Lale Andersen so I would love to give you some more information on the song. It was actually written in 1913 by a young poet called Hans Leip who was in love with two women, one called Lili and the other called Marleen. Then many years later composed to music by Norbert Schultz. My grandmother is the orginal singer of this song which was later sung by many other recording artists. The Nazis did not like it that a German singer was very popular with not only the German soldiers but also the allied troups. She was a very proud German but hated everything the Nazis stood for. She was banned from singing this song until after the war was over. A recent Documentary was produced on her life and hopefully will be shown to the public in the near future. I also forgot to mention that she was a friend of Norbert Schultz and it was he who thought of her to sing the song. Also Lale wanted to sing the song in t!
he style that you are familier with, and Norbert didn't but she prevailed and I am glad she did!! I would be happy to answer any other questions that any one may have.
Sincerely,
Jackie Mileham
