A Wartime letter to Winifred Matthews.

I bought an old book, it was an ex-school History Book. Inside was a
letter, it said:-

19 Cotswold Gdns, Sunday

My Dear Winnie, Dad has just finished your letter so I haven't any
news. I got this up and ready today so as Jim can post it in the
morning. I am starting spring cleaning and Margaret is coming
tomorrow Monday to help me. I want to try & be finished before you
come home. I did your little room on Friday, I think it looks lovely.
I distempered it all a little deeper colour. Do you want your sweet
ration coupons back or shall I keep them till you come. We had two
bad raids on Thursday & Friday night. I expect you would also have
them. It is two years yesterday since the big blitz on Glasgow by the
date. I hope you are well. I haven't much jam, but there is almost 1
lb. in that tin.

lots of love, Mum.

Inside the boook was a label AYTON SCHOOL Winifred Matthews form 2a

Does anyone know when the raids were?

Does anyone know where Cotswold Gdns was - possibly in Middlesbrough?

Who was Winifred and did she like her newly decorated room?

Any information about Winifred or the air-raids would be very
interesting.

Thanks, David G Butters of Billingham. DavidBttrs@aol.com
