As a child I listened to;

Little Orphan Annie, a daily serial adventure for kids with coded
messages

I love a Mystery, an adventure serial featuring the characters Doc,
Reggie and Jack, A Carlton Morse mystery thriller.

The FBI in Peace and War, going after the spies and bad guys.

Gangbusters, Cops going after the bad guys.

Jack Armstrong, The all American Boy who wanted you to eat Wheaties.

The Shadow, could make himself invisible to get the bad guss, "the tree
of evil bears bitter fruit". He learned the invisability trick in India

I hated the soaps and any 'family' oriented shows, I wanted adventure
but there was:

The Jack Benny Show, a variety situation comedy.

The Bob Hope Show, a comedy variety show.

The Charlie McCarthy Show, ditto featuring a dummy.

The Lux Radio Theater, a drama show.

Controversial subjects like sex, abortion, religion were verbotten.
race was a put down of minorities as were mental defectives.

There were many shows, too many to mention. It was common for the whole
family to gather in the evening to listen to the radio in the living
room or Dining room for several
hours. Periodically during WWII President Roosevelt would hold his
"Fireside Chats" and
inform the nation on the status of the war and other important subjects.
These were hugely popular and he often mentioned his dog "Fella" a small
black Scottie who would sit at his feet or in his lap.

Ron Gillen
