Changes to the MEMORIES List

Hello. This list -- memories@maelstrom.stjohns.edu -- has been relatively
silent during the last year; and yet I (and many others) believe it still
has an important part to play. Young people still want to learn more about
the events of the last 50 years of the 20th century from those who witnessed
it.

I've now asked a colleague, Sally Negus - sally@timewitnesses.org - to help
me to make several important changes:--

o The MEMORIES project has been renamed TIMEWITNESSES
and now has its own website at http://timewitnesses.org

o Many of the stories on that site have been translated into German
with the help of Heinz Mohn and his students at the Anna Essinger
School in Ulm. (Most stories are now tri-lingual)

o More stories are being added about the post-war years when
Europe was still struggling to recover from World War 2. (as an
example see http://timewitnesses.org/english/food/ -- also now in
German with help from the Seniors of Leipzig University)

We are also planning to move this list to a new home with more facilities at
timewitnesses@yahoogroups.com -- but I will wait for Sally to explain
further about that.
