. Hello Mary Waites > son who has been told at school that rationing ended as soon as war was > over in Canada and other countries. I wonder if you would have any > information on when rationing stopped in Canada and the UK, or where I I can't help you with Canada, but I can tell you that meat ration in England was _lower_ in 1951 (4 ounces per person per week) than it was during the war years, but rabbits were more readily available, and there were plenty of pigeons (for a pigeon recipe look at http://visitweb.com/recipes). Here in Britain tea came off-ration in 1952. Eggs in March 1953, sugar in September 1953. In May 1954 all fats were taken off-ration, and finally in June meat (which was just as well, because that was the year that the disease myxamatosis was deliberately spread to kill off rabbits - another experiment in tinkering with nature that eventually back-fired...). =================== Tom Holloway tom.holloway@u3a.org.uk Tel: (+44) (0) 1926-771772 Fax: (+44) (0) 1926-771707
