I can't help you with Canada, but I can tell you that meat ration in England
was _lower_ in 1951 (4 ounces per person per week) than it was during the war
years, but rabbits were more readily available, and there were plenty of
pigeons (for a pigeon recipe look at http://visitweb.com/recipes).

Here in Britain tea came off-ration in 1952. Eggs in March 1953, sugar in
September 1953. In May 1954 all fats were taken off-ration, and finally in
June meat (which was just as well, because that was the year that the disease
myxamatosis was deliberately spread to kill off rabbits - another experiment
in tinkering with nature that eventually back-fired...).
