Churchill could be rather cruel too. I recall having read somewhere
that one day in Parliament he responded to a speech by another
honourable member who had been schooled, apparently, in the belief
that, in English, it was wrong to end a sentence with a preposition:
Churchill then ended his criticism of that other speaker by saying,
"...and that is something up with which I cannot put." !
