My grandfather was in WWI and he always insisted that he remembered the
song from that time. He said that it was a poem and that it was about
two
women and not one. Lilli and Marlene.
He was sure that the lyrics were changed a little when he later heard
the
song, during WW2, as an officer in the home guard.
Sorry of this doesn't clarify anything.
