Dear all I am fascinated by the debate on Lilli Marlene. I used to want to research the song but I never got around to it. My grandfather was in WWI and he always insisted that he remembered the song from that time. He said that it was a poem and that it was about two women and not one. Lilli and Marlene. He was sure that the lyrics were changed a little when he later heard the song, during WW2, as an officer in the home guard. Sorry of this doesn't clarify anything. Regards Simon Spurdle
