Hi Shelby!
You ask for songs written during WWII - do you really mean that they
have to have been written at that time, or do you simply mean the songs that
were sung then?
A good source for songs that were sung by servicemen at the time is
"SONGS from the FRONT & REAR", by Anthony Hopkins, ISBN 0-88830-171-5,
published by Hurtig Publishers of Edmonton, Canada. You should be warned
that a few 'dirty ditties' appear in this book - this is, after all, a
record of songs sung by our men in uniform!
If your library carries any of the Reader's Digest songbooks, you'll
probably find in them quite a few of the "golden oldies" which were
published during that time; you may also be lucky enough to find songbooks
in any large music store which sells sheet music. The date of publication
is usually printed at the bottom of the first page of sheet music.
As Tom Holloway said earlier - no-one has the time to sit and type out
ALL the words, but if you had any particular songs in mind at some point in
your research, perhaps a few of us could each take one or two and cover them
for you.
