Mustard plasters were prescribed by doctors and home healers alike and usually for ailments where it was desired to "draw out" some disturbing factor. Infected wounds were a primary object of mustard plasters, though the pain alone would sometimes make you wish you had just put up with the infection at least a little longer. This is an old recipe used by my mother because it produced no blisters, (because the acid-like irritating side effect of the mustard appeared to be tempered with the flour and baking soda.
1 tbsp. flour
1 tbsp. baking soda
1 tbsp. powdered mustard
2 tbsp. canned milk (warmed is OK or even preferred)
Put the mixture on a cloth and place the prepared plaster without any cloth in between it and the skin. It will not produce blisters, but the heat will still be felt.
hope this satisfies your couriosity =;-)
